Google has already released its annual “Year in Search” for the top trending searches in 2021.
The top searched movie is black widow. The top searched show is squid game and the top searched actor is Alec Baldwin. I was definitely more interested in the top searched recipe.
*Drumrolls pls*.
Yup, It’s the TikTok pasta which I would say was well deserving indeed. You can check out my version here. We had made a video on it as well.
So, it’s time for me to share Maya’s kitchenette recipes for 2021. All these recipes are a winner not just for 2021 as I plan to keep them in rotation for 2022 and beyond.
This recipe didn’t just top 2021. It is the ALL-TIME top recipe on this blog. Umami-rich gravy, flavorful meatballs on a bed of creamy mashed potatoes. Who would be able to resist a plate of this, Right?
Salisbury Meatballs and Mashed Potatoes
I have said this before and I will say it again. Ask me to choose between caramel popcorn and these chicken wings while watching reruns of F.R.I.E.N.D.S, and I would go with the latter in a blink of an eye. Enough said.
Delicious Stovetop Honey Chicken Wings
One of my favorite Malay dishes and I guess it is your favorite too since it has made its way to the top 5. You do not need to be a Malay to enjoy this food. Do you love chicken? Do you love spice? If you nodded your head twice, Go and make this NOW.
Mussels In Lemon Garlic Butter Sauce
A simple recipe but so much flavor! Delicious on its own or when accompanied with some rice. You just know you don’t need to pull a muscle with these mussels.
Any recipe that starts with “One-pot” means there is not much washing involved which is welcoming. Obviously, if the recipe is delicious , it definitely has to be included in your repertoire, like this!
So there we go, these were the top 5 recipes of 2021 on Maya Kitchenette. For those of you who have not tried the above recipes, I do hope that you give these recipes a shot pretty soon.
Usually, when each year comes to a close, I come up with certain resolutions as I feel it’s time to press the restart button. A fresh, clean start. It’s like having a big white sheet of paper to draw on! This time however, I am not too sure. After the personal loss, it feels like this year has been one hell of a ride. I had my own struggles but I know everyone else also had plenty on their plate with all the restrictions that took place and is still going on due to covid.
Still, let’s keep our faith. May this coming year be a better one than 2021. Happy New Year to you and your loved ones. Enjoy the little things in life, for one day you may look back and realize that these only were the big things. Take care and stay safe!
Xoxo,
Maya
