Remember these crab rangoon? Today, we have something similar. These Fried Shrimp Balls are crunchy and delicious. A popular Chinese appetizer that has somehow made itself viral on TikTok. The recipe is actually really easy and fool-proof.

Fried Shrimp Balls

Firstly you start by blending the shrimp and the seasonings to form a paste. Then you cut up the spring roll wrappers into strips. The strips of spring roll wrappers act as skin to these shrimp balls and it gets all golden and crunchy when fried.

These are wonderful and quite addictive when they are paired off with a nice side of chili sauce to dip these crispy balls of goodness. These would actually be perfect for the upcoming Ramadan if you need something wholesome to snack on.

Ingredients
  • 400g shelled and deveined shrimp
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • ½ tbsp oyster sauce
  • ½ tbsp sesame oil
  • ½ tsp minced/grated garlic
  • ½ tsp minced/grated ginger
  • 1 tablespoon corn starch
  • ¼ tsp pepper
  • 2 tbsp chopped spring onion
  • 8 pieces spring roll wrapper, cut into strips
Instructions
  1. In a food processor, add shrimp, ginger, garlic, light soy sauce, oyster sauce and sesame oil. Blend until it forms a paste.
  2. Transfer to a bowl and add pepper, cornflour, and spring onion.
  3. Take 1 heap tablespoon of the prawn paste and place it on a bed of spring roll strips. Coat the balls with the strips evenly. Trim if needed.
  4. Deep fry the shrimp balls until they turn golden brown, about 4-5 minutes. Dish out, drain on paper towels and serve hot with Thai sweet chili sauce or your favorite chili sauce.
