I should be eating lettuce for the rest of the week and that too sans dressing and only a fork would be required. Reason is, I have had so many cakes on my birthday. I actually came up with a quote while eating all those cakes. “Only those who are loved so much gets more than 1 cakes on their birthdays”©. Yes, I am lucky that I received so much love (Read: Cakes) on my birthday. From the family, the 3 happy sisters (Read: best cousins forever) and another cousin who is currently in Toronto.
My eldest brother was the brainchild behind the celebration. We had a barbecue party by the beach! I had a lot of yummy food! It was good that we were at the beach for 7 hours. These many hours at the beach is the same as a good workout. Don’t even try to argue with me on that.
The most heart-tugging moment,of my whole weekend was my cousins coming all the way to my place, past midnight with a cake, BLUE flowers and presents! It wasn’t JUST a cake. There were churros circling the cake and you dip them with the chocolate mousse. Sighs. Too delicious. It was such a pleasant surprise and totally the highlight of my birthday for this year. Making my birthdays awesome are my cousins specialty. ♥
Now I am feeling depressed that I have to wait for another 360 days for my birthday. Yeah I know in the last post I was sad that It was my birthday and now I am sad that it is over. Women are born fickle minded ain’t we? Like we can’t decide to buy a red dress or the black one. Buy why choose when we can have both?
Moving on, I am in love, like really head over heels kinda thing. You must be thinking “she is getting too personal” Birthday celebration is one thing, now she wanna talk about her love life. Like who wanna know?
Well, what if I say I am in love with this fella?
I KNOW that you wanna know about this pretty little thang. Congratulate me guys. I just became a salmon lover last week. A lot of people I know love salmon. I decided to give it a try only because I felt compelled to do it. You know like a dress that is in fashion and everyone looking good while wearing it, so you end up buying one for yourself too because you want to be fashionable. I guess this is not the perfect example but you should have understood what I meant.
I hope.
So finally after years, I bought salmon last week. I researched on how and what to cook out of it, as if I was cooking my last meal. I was having all kinds of ideas as to which sauce I should serve it with. Lemon sauce, butter sauce or even the Awesome Poppyseed Dressing that I made which would be perfect to mask the “fishy” taste of the salmon. (I presumed it is gonna be fishy)
After a whole lot of research, I decided to prepare it as simple as possible. When I say simple, I really mean SIMPLE. I just coated the salmon with brown sugar + kosher salt + garlic herbs and pan fried it with a tiny weeny oil.
Starting on the first bite was HARD. I used my sense of smelling and touch first. I was very surprised that it didn’t smell “fishy” at all. I had a small bite. My eyes wide opened. I took the second bite, I was MIND BLOWN. By the third bite, I was already planning to go to the supermarket to buy more salmon. Dang, this has to be one of the best fish I have ever tried! Sweet, juicy and oh so fresh!
Dear salmon, I can’t believe I have been passing by you at the supermarket and not even giving you a second look. I promise you that I am gonna love you more from this moment. You would be seeing more of me in the future! Best friends forever?
To those of you who have never eaten salmon, this Simple Caramelized Salmon Recipe would be life changing. Please try it, if not for my sake, at least for the simple goodness of salmon. I promise you are gonna love it. Pinky promise.
