You guys must be thinking, do we really need a recipe for a yogurt bowl? The answer is both yes and no. While yogurt bowls are simple to make, beginners may find a recipe helpful as a starting point. Yogurt bowls are a great breakfast or dessert option, and they’re very healthy, especially if you choose low-sugar yogurt and nutritious toppings.
I am a huge fan of yogurt. It is not only delicious, but also a great way to get your daily dose of protein, probiotics, and vitamins. Yogurt bowls are also very versatile and can be customized to your own liking. You can use any type of yogurt you like, such as Greek yogurt, regular yogurt, or even flavored yogurt. Greek yogurt is a particularly good option, as it is thicker, creamier, and higher in protein than regular yogurt. Plant-based yogurt is also a great option and is now easily available.
To make a healthy yogurt bowl, start with unsweetened yogurt as sweetened yogurt often contains a lot of added sugar. You can always sweeten it yourself with honey or other natural sweeteners. Then, add your favorite toppings and flavors. Fresh fruits, granola, nuts, and seeds are popular options, but you can also add ingredients like cocoa powder, matcha powder, or spirulina for extra flavor and nutrients.
Personally, I love topping my yogurt bowls with granola, chia seeds, berries, and a drizzle of honey. Sometimes, I’ll add sliced bananas and a dollop of almond or peanut butter. Super yumz!!
If you haven’t tried yogurt bowls yet, I highly recommend giving this Greek Yogurt Breakfast Bowl a go. The recipe below is a basic guideline, but feel free to experiment with different toppings and flavors to find your own favorites.
- 1½ cup vanilla Greek yogurt
- 1 cup mixed berries of choice
- 2 tbsp granola (homemade or store bought)
- 1 tbsp nuts or seeds (I used pumpkin seeds here)
- 1 tbsp chia seeds
- Drizzle of honey or pure maple syrup
- Add yogurt to a bowl and arrange your toppings. You can choose to mix the honey/maple syrup to the yogurt or drizzle it over the whole bowl. Enjoy!
