Greetings, lovelies! How’s everyone doing?
The temperature has been on the rise, here in Sunny Singapore. So much that every time when I go out of the house, I come back craving for cold sweet drinks which is obviously not a good thing. Since the weather is really hot, it is important to stay hydrated, thus I have been trying to increase my intake of water and somehow, my intake for this Almond Butter Banana Smoothie has been increasing too. It’s toooo yummy people!
Anyways, since the summer is hitting on us, I thought it would be good to share a healthy and Delicious Chia Seed Drink that would keep all of us cool and refreshed! If you are a fan of Mama Chia, you would know what I am talking about.
As most of you should have known by now, Chia seeds are an amazing superfood and they are a good source of calcium, Omega-3s, antioxidants and more. Once soaked, these tiny seeds swell up and have a slightly crunchy center surrounded by a clear jelly-like exterior, pretty much like basil seeds. The seeds alone do not have much flavor, but once combined with other ingredients, for instance fruit juices in today’s case, you will end up with a tasty and wholesome beverage.
Chia seeds drinks are gaining in popularity and a bottle can cost up anywhere between $4 to $6, which is a hefty price to pay. In this post, I’ll share how to make your own chia seed drink for a fraction of that cost.
Basically you would start by soaking the seeds in some water and once the seeds have expanded and turned gelatinous, you mix it with your fruit juice of choice. I used cherry juice in this recipe but you can really use anything you like. Cranberry juice, orange juice, mango juice; the world is your oyster. Besides fruit juices, you can also mix chia with kombucha for an instant healthy drink.
This Chia seed drink is the perfect beverage as they have natural sugars that combines with the fat and protein of the seeds and holds you over for quite some time. These tiny seeds also hold many times their weight in water which makes it a perfect drink for the upcoming Ramadan. YES, Ramadan is coming in about 6 weeks. I’m super excited!!
- 1 cup of juice (I used cherry juice)
- ¾ cup of water
- 3 tablespoons chia seeds
- Add chia seeds in the water and stir well till the seeds are evenly dispersed.
- Cover and put cup in the refrigerator for a few hours or overnight.
- Once the chia have expanded and turned gelatinous, mix in 1 cup of juice of your choice.
- Enjoy or chill in fridge till ready to drink.
